Every year, the Wags & Walkers volunteers at Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) set up a few tables at the annual “I Don’t Want It” Sale. This year is no exception. Join us on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 11 a.m. at our For Pet’s Sake Boutique. We will have a wonderful variety of gently used jewelry, accessories, purses, and more. All proceeds from the sale support the medical and behavioral needs of the animals at PACC.
With the increase in numbers at the shelter over the last two years, the need is greater than ever. Last year’s proceeds were split evenly between:
• TOP Dogs: Volunteers who are all certified dog trainers work with adopters, fosters, and volunteers to remediate behavior issues. This helps keep adopted and foster dogs in their homes, as well as helps our shelter dogs gain the life skills necessary to transition to new homes. They provide training equipment and written materials.
• Noise Abatement: Pima County, in conjunction with Friends of PACC, is working on additional noise abatement panels to be added to the Phase 2 section of PACC. This renovated section was the original building and houses more than 250 dogs. With the increase in our census, the noise levels need to be addressed in order to reduce the stress level for the dogs, as well as for the comfort of the public visiting that section.
• Adaptil Calming Collars: Dogs entering the shelter are fit with Adaptil Calming Collars to help reduce their stress. Since high levels of stress can affect a dog’s immune system, keeping stress levels low is imperative to keeping the shelter population healthy.
Last-minute donations can be dropped off until Oct. 14 at 63457 E. Squash Blossom Lane. We can only accept donations of gently used jewelry, scarves, purses, and accessories. When dropping off, please leave items inside the wall in the courtyard under the ramada between the house and the casita.
We look forward to seeing you at this year’s sale and thank you for your continued support. The pets thank you, too!
