The Social Awareness and Justice Ministry at Santa Catalina Catholic Church is presenting a forum called “Understanding the Plight of the Refugee and Undocumented Immigrants in America.” The forum will be held at the Santa Catalina Catholic Church parish hall at 14380 N Oracle Rd on February 24, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
The following speakers will present:
Fr. Sean Carroll, S.J.: Executive Director of Kino Border Initiative, a Catholic, bi-national, collaborative effort that focuses on humanitarian assistance, education, research and social-pastoral outreach in the area of migration.
Rev. Msgr. Jeremiah J. McCarthy, Ph.D.: As Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Tucson, he assists the bishop in the governance of the diocese, especially in guiding and caring for the pastoral needs and administration of the diocese. Msgr. McCarthy also serves as the diocesan expert on moral theology.
Rocío Castañeda: A staff attorney with the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights where she works in the cases involving the separation of immigrant children from their parents. Rocío has advocated for the rights of immigrant children, women and men since 2006.
Representatives from the immigration, asylum seeker and refugee community will be present to share their stories and answer your questions.
