The MountainView Duplicate Bridge Club welcomes all comers on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. in the DesertView Mariposa Room. Table fees are $4. Hand records are provided. We are off to a great start this year. We averaged 14 tables in January. The big game was the Junior Fund game January 29 with 16.5 tables. On the 19th, we had a small eleven table turnout because many of our regulars were at the Regional Tournament in Albuquerque.
Bob Murray wins player of the month. He played all seven times the club was open and was first three times, second three times and—didn’t do so well the last time. Surely it’s not blasphemous to point out that resting on the seventh day is traditional. Bob played with two of his regular partners who also deserve recognition—Betty Meyer and Eric Vonderheid.
Speaking of Betty Meyer, I want to recognize the special gift that she brings to the table—uncommon courtesy. She exemplifies friendly play. She compliments her opponents—even when they deserve it—smiles in defeat and never gloats in victory. She welcomes new players and treats her partners as well as she treats her opponents. Betty encourages beginners without patronizing them. Our club is friendly and our players are courteous, of course, but Betty goes above and beyond.
