Colonel William Nagy
The Catalina Mountains Satellite Chapter (CMSC) Tucson of the Military Officers Association of American (MOAA) kicked off its 2019-20 season on Oct. 19, in the Catalina Room of the Mesquite Grill in the MountainView Country Club complex. The guest speaker for the event was Senator Vince Leach (a SaddleBrooker). Senator Leach is a Republican member of the Arizona State Senate representing district 11, which includes Maricopa, Arizona City, Oro Valley, and SaddleBrooke, as well as parts of Casa Grande and Eloy.
Senator Leach began his presentation by relating that he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He spent the majority of his army career as an artilleryman, stationed in West Germany. Senator Leach moved to SaddleBrooke in 2007 and entered Arizona politics shortly thereafter. He has served two terms in the House of Representatives and is currently serving his first term in the Senate. The senator explained in detail the workings of the budgeting process, including how our tax dollars get appropriated and spent. He emphasized that the state is fostering a program to make our prisons safer both for the prisoners and corrections officers through the implementation of artificial intelligence.
Senator Leach also added insight into various other state programs, including the Kid’s Care program, veterans suicide prevention, and authorization for veteran’s special license plates. At the end of his presentation, he was presented with a MOAA certificate of appreciation, along with a MOAA coin.
The CMSC of MOAA meets the third Saturday of each month, October through April (Note: there will be no meeting in December this year) at the Catalina Room of the Mesquite Grill in the MountainView clubhouse complex starting at 11:30 a.m. For additional information, contact Colonel Bill Nagy, CMSC president, at [email protected].
The CMSC is part of the Tucson Chapter of MOAA and encompasses northwest Tucson (including Catalina, Oracle, parts of Oro Valley, Marana, SaddleBrooke, and Sun City). MOAA is a nonprofit veterans’ service association dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense and preserve the earned entitlements of members of the uniformed services and their families.
