Mental illness: what you need to know and how to get help

Leslie Fore

Mental health problems are very common. One in five American adults and youth are affected by mental illness. The Santa Catalina Catholic Church Social Awareness and Justice Ministry is hosting an educational forum on mental illness called Understanding Mental Illness: Together We Can Make A Difference on January 28, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church’s parish hall. Santa Catalina is located at 14380 N. Oracle Road.

H. Clarke Romans, PhD, Executive Director of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southern Arizona will speak about what mental illness is, the types of mental illness and the resources available through NAMI Southern Arizona. There will also be an In Our Own Voice presentation – a unique public education program in which two speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery. Questions and discussion will follow the presentations.
