Jewish Friendship Group news

Marilyn Anthony

The October Potluck was once again a great success. The food was amazing – the best in SaddleBrooke. Everyone ate too much and had a wonderful time!

Our first catered dinner of the season is happening on November 12 in the Vermilion Room at HOA 1. It is a buffet and will consist of: Garden salad with ranch and raspberry vinaigrette dressings, turkey chili with the fixings, cornbread and crackers and an ice cream sundae.

Cost: $15 per person. Reservations by November 4. Please send checks to Laurie Colen at 63845 E. Orangewood Lane.

On December 6 the Jewish Friendship Group is partnering with SaddleBrooke Outreach in displaying traditional items of Christmas and Chanukah. We still require volunteers to supply applesauce/sour cream, make latkes and loan us menorahs for display. Please contact Steve Grabell at 825-4159, [email protected], Sy Efron at 825-7047, [email protected] or Willie Reich at 825-0117, [email protected].

The JFG Chanukah Dinner takes places on December 7 at the Vistas Dining Room, HOA 1. Come sing songs, play dreidel and enjoy brisket and latkes.

Don’t forget to bring a small gift for the children at the Diamonds Children Center. A new toy or arts and crafts item will make a lovely present for a young person in the hospital.

This is one of the best attended events of the season so be sure to reserve your seat.

The JFG Ladies’ Coffee co-hosted by Diane Korn and Fleurette Wallach at Diane’s beautiful home was a lovely get together with delicious and abundant food and interesting conversation. Our thanks to Diane and Fleurette for their gracious hosting of the group.

Although there is no coffee scheduled for November we will be meeting again in December. Details to follow in JFG emails. Anyone wishing to host a Ladies’ Coffee should contact Harriet Rosenberg at 529-6533 or [email protected].

The Co-ed Book Club would like to thank Sharon Triester for stepping in at the last minute to host the October meeting.

The book for November 12 is The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker, chaired by Alan Levinson. Alan has suggested that we read the new book by Rushdie, Two Years Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights, as a companion piece. Please RSVP TO Alan at [email protected] or 818-3158 by November 9. Optional get-together for lunch at 11:45 a.m.; book discussion at 12:15 p.m.

Our book for December is Guide for the Perplexed by Dara Horn, a spellbinding novel of how technology changes memory and how memory shapes the soul.

We count on your support and encourage you to join our regular activities which are solely intended to encourage and enable the extension of Jewish friendships throughout SaddleBrooke. Please make your suggestions known to Steve or Sy in the hopes that we can work together to enhance the nature and meaning of Jewish friendship in the future.

For further information about the JFG, please contact Co-Presidents Steve Grabell at  [email protected] 520-825-4159 or Sy Efron at [email protected] 520-825-7047.
