Health Night Out: a pain in the gut

Dr. Michele Dodman

Phyllis Ketring

Colon cancer is the third largest cause of death in men and the second in women. Dr. Michele Dodman will discuss how most of these deaths could have been prevented when she addresses Health Night Out on Monday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. She will discuss issues of the gastrointestinal tract and how to prevent, detect and treat them.

Colon and liver cancers are considered highly preventable. New research emphasizes the relationship between the gastrointestinal tract and overall health. At this presentation, you will learn how to choose the right doctor for an effective colonoscopy, how to prevent problems and how to select a treatment. Dr. Dodman will present a thorough overview of gastrointestinal problems and welcomes active participation from the audience.

Dr. Michele Dodman began her professional career in the army where she served as a combat medic. She was the first female to complete the Gastrointestinal Fellowship in her program and had the privilege of studying liver disease in London at the Royal Free Hospital, under the tutelage of Professor Dame Shelia Sherlock. Dr. Dodman is a board-certified gastroenterologist with a D.O. and fellowships in patient safety, health policy and an MBA in healthcare management. She has designed educational programs for medical students and served as program director for a large Internal Medicine Residency program.

Dr. Dodman is a big believer in a medical culture that is centered on patient safety and that encourages patients to speak out to their practitioners.
