SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club had plenty to celebrate at their June 25 breakfast meeting. Outgoing President Dick Kroese received a standing ovation for his initiative and hard work to start a morning Rotary club in SaddleBrooke. In less than a year, the newly chartered club received a Presidential Citation from Rotary International, initiated several service projects such as volunteering at the Golden Goose, pulling buffelgrass at Catalina State Park, and collecting musical instruments for elementary students in Oracle School District. From a small group of six individuals who had a vision, Sunrise Rotary now has thirty members.
President Kroese helped install Doug Sweetland as incoming President. He gave the new President several gifts, one of which was, in Kroese’s own words “a walking pole because I know that whatever path he leads us on, there will be rocks and stones in his way that he will have to climb over to accomplish his and our goals… Doug is the right person to lead us on our continual path to become an even better Club than we are today.”
Continuing the day’s celebrations, Sally Montange, District 5500 Governor, and Charlotte Harris, representing the Paul Harris Society, awarded Roger Bogard his membership in the Paul Harris Society (PHS), which is a group of Rotarians who pledge generous and sustained contributions to the Rotary Foundation. SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary now has two PHS members, Dick Kroese and Roger Bogard.
The SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club meets Thursday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in the East Room of MountainView Country Club. If you have interest in joining, contact President Doug Sweetland at [email protected].
