Eighteen lucky members of the SaddleBrooke Hiking Club will be heading to a very special place this coming fall-—a place deep in the Grand Canyon with spectacular scenery. Not accessible by automobile, truck, or bus, Supai is a small Havasupai Indian village with access to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. Not surprisingly, when news of the trip was announced last month, it sold out quickly.
Like most other visitors to Supai, club members will arrive by foot after hiking down into the Grand Canyon. The club has made arrangements with the tours division of Northern Arizona University to guide several days of hikes in the western Grand Canyon, including the trip to Supai itself. All clothing, food and gear will be carried down by pack horses and all meals and lodging also will be provided. All the hikers will need to carry are their day packs with water and lunches, also supplied by the guides.
For those who will go on this November 7 through 12 trip, the highlight might very well be the day hike from Supai Village down to New Navajo Falls, Havasupai Falls and Mooney Falls. The sight of the blue green water combined with the travertine cliffs is breathtaking.
The Supai trip is in addition to the club’s annual large group hiking trip. This year members will travel to Palm Springs in the next month. In previous years they have visited national parks in Utah and the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff/Sedona in Arizona.
