PPB’s first 9-ball Singles Tournament

Joe Giammarino

Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) wants to thank our generous sponsors Expert Automotive and Smashburger. On Saturday, April 20, 2019, the PPB Billiards Club hosted the first 9-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s newly opened, beautiful Catalina Recreation Center (CRC). The format was double elimination, two out of three in the first round and single games the rest of the tournament. What a wonderful place we have to hold these events and it is going to get better with a fourth just appropriated Connelly pool table!

Tournament Directors were Dominic Borland and Joe Giammarino. Ron “Dblo7” Ridge was manning the tournament bracket again and did a fine job; thanks, Ron. The following field of 16 players gathered to play competitive 9-Ball. Dan “Oh No!” Stebbins, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Jack Hepner, Bob “O” Ogle, Warren Henderson, Gary “One Rail” Barlow, Jan “Banker” Stebbins, Tom “Ski” Kaliski, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Romayne Trudo, Dale Trudo, Phelps L’Hommedieu, Jim “Rocket Man” Donat, Ted Duma, Dave Strief.

Joe Giammarino’s path to victory was as follows: He started by defeating Romayne Trudo, Joe escaped this one as Romayne won the first game in the two out of three matches to get Joe’s attention, he regained his composure to finally win the match. Then in order, he defeated Jim Donat, Gary Barlow, Dominic Borland and Steve Searl.

The PPB wants to extend a big thank you to all our participants and sponsors. On a special note we had two brave PPB ladies, Jan Stebbins and Romayne Trudo, who jumped into the 9-Ball competition against 14 male competitors. Good job, ladies!

The 9-Ball Singles tournament started at 1:00 p.m. and lasted two hours with 47 games of 9-Ball being played. We competed and met some new friends that shared our passion. That is a good day! Rack ’em up!
