2019 Arizona Short Course Yards State Swim Championship

Karin Bivens

The three-day Arizona Short Course Yards State Championship took place March 29-31, at the University of Arizona’s newly renovated Hillenbrand Pool. There were 18 individual events and six relay events. One hundred and eighty-nine swimmers (95 women, 94 men) competed in this state competition representing 23 clubs. SaddleBrooke Masters had the largest number of swimmers competing in this meet with 22 women and 23 men. There was great camaraderie among the swimmers and lots of cheering, encouragement and congratulatory comments. When the points were tallied, the SaddleBrooke Swim Club was solidly victorious coming in first in the club competition. Special recognition and monogrammed towels were given to individual age group high points winners of the meet and included SaddleBrooke Swim Club members Jack Fritz, Lyn Moreno, Ted Pierce, Doug Springer, Stan Strebig and Steve Truesdale. Special thanks to Jay Selnick for officiating and all the volunteers who helped count laps, time events and supported swimmers. Thank you to Meet Director Jim Stites and Meet Referee Judy Gillies for making this meet so successful.
