A widow and hospice patient living alone in Catalina with very limited financial resources and a neglected yard appeared to be a perfect opportunity for The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke to perform its Community Service work. Under the expert direction of Community Service Committee members Chris Millar and Joe Guyton, a number of our members volunteered to be of service.
Rotary volunteers were divided into work groups. One cadre took up a variety of hand tools and a chain saw to clean up accumulated trash, neglected landscaping and yard. Overgrown trees and shrubs were pruned and flower beds cleaned. Two Rotarians with a trailer attached to their trucks hauled several loads to the Transfer Station. Another cadre of the club ably swept outdoor living spaces and cleaned furniture. A few hours later, the Rotarians could look with pride at an immaculate back yard, porch and nicely trimmed landscaping.
If you would like to help make a difference locally and globally, come check out The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke. We meet weekly on Thursdays at the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse. If you’d like to join us for lunch, there are three outstanding meal options ranging from $7 to $11. We start ordering lunch about 11:15 a.m., have a short Rotary Meeting and enjoy a program about 12:20 p.m. or so. But the best part is all the friendly people you’ll meet!
