Sidonia St.Germaine
Did it really happen or was it all a dream? The answer comes at the end of this delightful story written by four students from Mammoth Elementary STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) School and their science tutor, Steve Rumsey from SaddleBrooke’s Unit 43. The story tells of grade school kids’ adventures in a science club and their ideas for fantastic new inventions. It is an entertaining read especially for grade-school-age children.
The book titled Our Science Club: The Gold Key was two years in the writing. Steve met with the children for half an hour once a week. He spurred their imaginations but let the story come from them with just a bit of reigning in when ideas became too outrageous.
The story did not evolve sequentially. They began with a beginning and an ending and then worked on creating the major portion. Steve and author, Sondra, did the typing and Cathy Rumsey and Tracy Gonzales, the school secretary, reviewed and edited the book. The drawings were done by the authors and Steve used Photo Sketch for the photo-like illustrations.
A book signing was held at the Mammoth Elementary School Christmas program and many of the books were sold there. The books are available for $6 by contacting Steve Rumsey at [email protected] or Tracy Gonzales at 520-487-2242. All proceeds from sales go to Mammoth Elementary STEM School.
