Recently Community Church at SaddleBrooke (CCSB) held a men’s rally. One of the many things discussed was the dire situation in which youth are finding themselves in Tucson and the surrounding communities. The magnitude of the problem cannot be overstated: kids are living on the streets and sleeping on floors without the basic sanitary needs that all of us take for granted. But all of these kids (Youth On Their Own [YOTO]) want to receive a high school education. Fifteen hundred youth are being served at YOTO from Tucson and the surrounding communities. Our men’s hearts were touched and a basket was passed around in which a considerable amount of money was collected. From this money approximately 1600 sanitary and grooming items were purchased including toothpaste, razors, soap, wash cloths and toothbrushes. The Dollar General in Catalina also donated several items. All of these items were then placed into 82 kits by our church members for individual distribution among the youths. These particular supplies were made to give to young men. The women of our church did the same thing for the female youths.
After completing our task of making up the zip-lock bags with sanitary supplies, they were taken down to Youth On Their Own. Kids came to the car and helped in the unloading. The warm feeling and gratitude from the kids was overwhelming. All of this done to, hopefully, make a small difference in kids lives.
CCSB meets every Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the DesertView Theatre. We are an all-denominational Christian Church and all are welcome.
