Lori Shepherd
SaddleBrooke’s World War II Roundtable is proud to present Ms. Lori Shepard in a presentation of “Holocaust Liberation” on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at DesertView Theater.
Lori Shepherd began her career in nonprofit organizations with United Way and later developed a deep connection in Holocaust remembrance and pedagogy as executive director of the El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center. As executive director of the Tucson Jewish Museum & Holocaust Center since 2022, she brings more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience and holds a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designation and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). She will share her passion for Jewish history and Holocaust education with our SaddleBrooke community in a presentation open to all SaddleBrooke residents.
Allied Troops began encountering Nazi concentration camps in the Summer of 1944 with Majdanek, and over the next six months would come face-to-face with unspeakable atrocities. In January, the world will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, the most notorious of all the Nazi killing centers. Lori Shepherd’s presentation will share stories of liberation from the eyes of one local survivor and the other men who lived it. She will explore how books, movies, and media have treated this history and how we can use memory to keep these stories alive so that future generations can learn from them.
The Tucson Jewish Museum & Holocaust Center is located in Barrio Viejo, near downtown Tucson. The museum features the first synagogue in the Arizona Territory (1910) and a Holocaust History Center. The museum explores the experiences of Jewish people in Southern Arizona and compares them to other traditionally marginalized communities. The center presents the Holocaust through the life experiences of more than 270 survivors who survived Nazi persecution and later lived in Southern Arizona.
Please join us for this memorable presentation on Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at DesertView Theater. The World War II Roundtable does not charge for events and always welcomes new members. To get on our contact list, please email [email protected].
