One of the Treats and Talents Charity Auction fixed price offerings for the last several years has been a men’s cooking class geared to novice cooks as well as more experienced cooks who just want to learn new techniques and experiment with different recipes. This class is offered by Nile Vernon, Al Rhodes and Carter Wareing. The menus have actually gotten a bit more sophisticated over the years and have included instruction on how to prepare Manhattan chicken breast with fresh spinach and melted cheese, maple glazed salmon with brown rice and London broil and Caesar salad.

During the three session class which was held in March and April, all participants assisted the chefs in preparing the meal which they all then enjoyed along with some wine or beer. Carter demonstrated how to prepare salmon with brown sauce and rice, Nile taught them how to prepare a vegetarian pasta dish with black beans, artichokes and mushrooms. Al demonstrated how to prepare chicken tortilla soup and a wedge salad.

This class is just one of the many unique fixed price items which are part of the Treats and Talents Charity Auction. Thanks to so many participants from units throughout SaddleBrooke we raised over $38,000 that will be donated to several different charities including Impact, SaddleBrooke Community Outreach, Youth on Their Own, The SaddleBrooke Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Adopt a Family. Be watching for an announcement of the date for the 2015 auction which will be held in March or early April.
