Unit 5 Ladies always up for a good time
Fran Berman
Every month Unit 5 women have a chance to get together for a good food time. In the odd numbered months, we gather in one of our homes for morning coffees which are always much more than coffee. Chocked full of great food, conversation and connecting with old and new neighbors, these coffees are usually held 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the day chosen by the hostess. September found more than 20 of us in Kathy Soerens’ home, decorated with lovely touches of Holland and Dutch culture.
In the even numbered months, it’s lunch at a local restaurant. In October twelve of us feasted on Asian specialties at GMG Bistro in Oro Valley. Some of us rode together; others took the opportunity to run errands (i.e., shop).
If you’re a Unit 5 woman and haven’t joined us, just contact Karen Bettencourt or Carol Tibor for details on the next Unit 5 Ladies’ event.
Unit 21 Ladies Luncheon Delizioso

What could be better than a great gathering of friends being waited on by a superior staff of servers and chefs at one of Tucson’s premiere Italian restorantes? Well, that is what happened for the gathering of 22 ladies from Unit 21 on October 2 at the outstanding establishment known as Tavolino Restaurant at 2890 E. Skylinde Drive.
This very successful event was organized by Linda Dalaskey, who is familiar with all the best Italian restaurants in the Tucson area. Signora Dalaskey had no problem recommending Tavolino’s as they have a following of repeat diners frequently returning for their favorite homemade pasta dishes.
One of the highlights of the gathering was an impromptu birthday celebration of another true blue Italian, Judy Saks, as she repeated her annual Thirty-Nine and Holding arrival into the world. Many more birthday celebrations, Judy, and keep that beautiful smile for all to see.

Nobody was a loser at the Unit 21 annual Poker Run on October 14, 2015. Of course, there were prizes for the best hands compiled by participants, but an evening spent with good friends, eating great food and sipping on thirst quenching liquid spirits is hard to beat.
Ron Morris and Dolores Root, along with their team of Judy Saks, Betsy Levenson and a host of notorious dealers, pulled off another winning event at the Roadrunner Grill.
Chef Dave Bishow added to the evening by having his culinary team of grilling experts preparing delicious burgers, potato salad and western cowboy baked beans.
Many thanks go out to the hosting dealers that kept folks busy collecting cards throughout the first part of the evening. The golf cart driving gamblers went to seven dealer homes collecting envelopes containing a single playing card. Those cards then were used to put together the best five card poker hand.
See if you can match the dealers by the aliases they used.

Unit 48 travels to Mt. Lemmon for the Lunar Eclipse
A group of moon and star lovers from unit 48 traveled via Grayline Van to take part in the special Sky Center program featuring the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse. The group posed for a picture in front of the telescopes they can see from their back yards at SaddleBrooke. As well as the eclipse, the group witnessed an awe-inspiring sunset and a detailed presentation of stars, planets and galaxies. The five hour program navigated the star gazers throughout the night sky with the 32 and 26 inch telescopes as well as binoculars to see Saturn, Neptune and arms of the Milky Way; an educational night for all.
