Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino
The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Billiards Club wants to thank our Travel Team director Tony Cardillo for putting the latest competition together. On Sept. 9, the PPB Billiards Club hosted a singles Round-Robin 8-Ball Tournament in SaddleBrooke One’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. The PPB was tentatively scheduled to play SaddleBrooke Ranch’s Billiards Club, but they could not coral enough members to make the date. So, Tony decided to hold a Round-Robin 8-Ball Tournament instead. The format was each participant would play every other participant one game of 8-ball. We had 10 participants, so everyone would play nine games of 8-ball. The following field of 10 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-ball: Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, Mike “Mayhem” Meredith, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Les Goins, and Dick Dunbar.
Results:
1st place: Tony Cardillo with nine wins and one loss
2nd place: Joe Giammarino with eight wins and two losses
3rd place: Jack Hoverter with seven wins and two losses
Recap:
Tony “The Snake” Cardillo ended up on top of the field of 10 8-ballers. At the end of the tournament, Tony Cardillo and Joe Giammarino were tied with eight wins and one loss each. To break the tie, they would play one game of 8-ball. Tony defeated Joe for the title in the PPB’s first Round-Robin 8-Ball Tournament. This type of tournament is a winner as far as I’m concerned. It fits our timeframe of two to three hours, and everyone gets to play a bunch of pool! That’s a winner in my book.
The PPB wants to thank all our participants for their support. The singles 8-Ball Tournament started at 9 a.m. and lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes, with 45 games of 8-ball being played. We had a friendly competition with friends who share our passion. That is a good day! Rack ‘em up!
