Many of us take for granted the ability to get in our cars and simply drive to DVPAC or one of the clubhouses for dinner, a theatre production, musical show or a special event. But in SaddleBrooke there are residents who for various reasons cannot drive at night, do not drive at all, or cannot get out alone. For these folks, the wonderful theatre programs and dinner out are often inaccessible for them. Recently, those in charge of the SaddleBrooke Variety Show (Lloyd Maritz and Tim Koch) and The PrimeTime Players (Steve and Susan Shear) worked together with the SaddleBrooke Theatre Guild to address this issue. The two theatre groups together donated almost $10,000 from their 2016 show proceeds to the Senior Village at SaddleBrooke, a non-profit that helps residents remain active in SaddleBrooke as they age in place. Over 150 SaddleBrooke volunteers provide services to resident members who need a lockbox installed, a friendly phone call, transportation to medical appointments, the grocery or the pharmacy and help with simple tasks at home. In addition, volunteers drive residents within SaddleBrooke to activities and events close by.
