Char Crossman

Char Crossman, a resident of SaddleBrooke One for 12 years, has announced she is a candidate for the 2017 Board of Directors.

Char’s professional career was as a Clinical Scientist with emphasis on quality assurance. Prior to moving to SaddleBrooke, Char and her husband Ken lived in The Netherlands where she was Membership Chair for The American Women’s Club of Amsterdam. The club’s focus was to aid women new to The Netherlands and to educate them and help them adjust to the cultural differences.

Upon arrival in SaddleBrooke, Char immediately became involved with the Ladies Niners, starting as their webmaster, and serving as Internal Communications Chair, Handicap Chair and Vice President. Char currently serves as the President of the Ladies Niners and has also served on the HOA One Golf Committee since 2013. As a member of the Golf Committee she was part of the ad hoc committee reviewing areas for possible turf removal from the golf courses in anticipation of future State of Arizona water conservation requirements.

Fully recognizing that SaddleBrooke has so much to offer its residents in addition to golf, Char is totally dedicated to supporting all amenities and will work to maintain our wonderful community, both aesthetically and financially, by listening to both resident and management concerns, analyzing pros and cons of funding projects prior to Board approval, and promoting SaddleBrooke One to visitors, potential new residents and current residents alike.

When my wife Mardie and I decided to retire in 2003, we spent a number of months researching retirement destinations. Since we were living in Virginia, the most logical destination was somewhere on the East Coast. We had visited our daughter in Tucson several times but had not really considered the area for retirement. At her suggestion, we visited a number of adult communities in the Tucson area and, of course, SaddleBrooke was one of them. Once we experienced the view from the top of SaddleBrooke Boulevard, we were hooked. In November 2004, we moved to Unit 21 in SaddleBrooke.

We are blessed to have both of our daughters, their husbands and all four grandsons living in Tucson. One grandson is a freshman at University of Arizona, one is a freshman in high school (home schooled) and the other two (ages four years and 20 months) are driving their parents crazy. Of course, Mardie and I enjoy their numerous visits to SaddleBrooke.

While waiting for my first SaddleBrooke haircut, I inquired of “Jim the barber” how I might get involved with a group of guys to play golf. He just happened to be attending to Andy Baravik, President of the SaddleBrooke Men’s Golf Association (SMGA). Well, as fate would have it, a year and a half later I began serving on the SMGA Board and later was elected president. Although I still play a little golf, I have many other interests where I feel I can contribute to the betterment of SaddleBrooke One.

After serving on the Golf Committee from 2006 to 2008, I accepted an invitation to serve on the SaddleBrooke One Finance Committee (FC). Since my professional background was a CPA/CFO, I felt that was a good fit. During my term on the FC, I went through four cycles of SaddleBrooke One’s budgetary process, gaining valuable knowledge of SaddleBrooke One’s finances.

In 2013 I was elected a SaddleBrooke One Board of Director. Among my many duties as a Director has been to serve as Board Liaison to the Rules Compliance and Covenants and Golf Committees. Also, as SaddleBrooke One’s current treasurer, I serve on the Finance, Investment and 401(K) Committees.

I have decided to run for reelection as a SaddleBrooke One Director and would appreciate your vote. For more information please visit  http://www.saddlebrooke.org.
