Did you know that there are approximately 2,200 homeless individuals in Tucson? There has been an increase in homelessness in recent years, which has been primarily driven by the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, including rising housing and living costs, job loss, and the end of the eviction moratorium. Other significant issues include mental illness and substance use disorders.
If you want to know more about the homeless and poor in Tucson, what Casa Maria does to support these individuals, and how you can make a difference, please join the Santa Catalina Social Awareness and Justice Ministry as it hosts a presentation by Brian Flagg, the leader of Casa Maria for over 40 years. The presentation will be on Feb. 22, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Santa Catalina Catholic Church Parish Hall Saguaro Room at 14380 N. Oracle Road.
The Casa Maria Soup Kitchen supports the homeless and poor by providing approximately 400 breakfasts and lunch bags to homeless individuals and 80 bags of groceries for poor families every day of the year, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Led by a small core team, volunteers from churches of all denominations help with its mission.
