Newspapers are a great source of family history details. Newspapers give facts and tell stories of our ancestors’ lives. You will learn some tips and tricks:

* How and why to search newspapers.

* Briefly cover what different facts one can learn about one’s ancestors in newspapers.

* Look at a few newspaper websites and databases — including how to effectively search them.

Moreen Ferdie, PLCGS, is a graduate of the National Institute for Genealogical Studies in American Records, Methodology, and Eastern European Records. She is a professional genealogist. Moreen has been researching her family history since 2014. Along with serving clients and giving presentations for the Southern Arizona Genealogy Society. She volunteers her time at the local Family History Center. Her specialties are newspapers and Eastern Europe.

The Genealogy Club meets on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Coyote Room at the SaddleBrooke One Club facility. The next meeting is May 7. Club dues are $15. Speakers are booked with topics focusing on Genealogy and research methods. After the presentations, members and guests can remain and meet directly with other members to discuss specifically where they may be in their research and subjects that will vary based on the members’ questions and desire to learn more.
