Square Dancers Spin, Swing, and Weave at the Cool Mountain Fling

Mary Klootwyk

Square dancers from SaddleBrooke Squares Dance Club, along with dancers from Southern Arizona, celebrated the 75th Annual White Mountain Rim Rompers Cool Mountain Fling Square Dance and Round Dance Festival held this past July 13 through 16.

More than 95 dancers were spinning, swinging, and weaving in the White Mountain Dance Hall in Show Low, Ariz. The caller for the festival was Andy Allemao from California, who kept the crowd energetic with his dynamic calling. As one dancer commented, “He’s got more energy than that pink bunny who keeps going and going and going!”

The Cool Mountain Fling included square dancing, round dancing, both square and round dance workshops, a barbecue lunch on Saturday afternoon, an after-party with ice cream, and a continental breakfast on Sunday. What more could you ask for?!

At the end of the festival, dancers said so long to old and newfound friends with plans to return for the 2024 Cool Mountain Fling.
