Sonoran Singers

Georgie Hourigan

Sonoran Singers may be on hiatus until we gather once again with our director Cora Peters to prepare for our autumn and holiday sing-outs, but several of us just can’t stay away. So, we meet up at our usual time in the MountainView clubhouse dining room and share some drinks and together time every Wednesday. This is a tradition started by our very special President Emeritus Sally Horn who is also responsible for instituting our chorus altogether in 2001. She began with just a few ladies, and her husband Russ, a barbershop singer, was the first director. Gradually, we grew, and several directors later (Sue Robisch, Janie Grinstead), we continue to enjoy bringing our voices together to entertain.

The 4th of July is a very special day, and Marilyn Ginther, Sally Horn, and Lynne Ast (Kathleen Brown’s daughter) made the most of it by decorating their table with red, white, and blue for the occasion with tablecloths, flags, and blue bottles. Trudy Varga’s German friend Gerta Klages brought a throw to show us in red, white, and blue, which had been gifted to her by the Veterans Hospital here in Tucson following the passing of her husband Larry Klages a few months earlier. Larry had served in a branch of the military and retired as a high-ranking officer. The gorgeous blanket had been crocheted by a volunteer.

A great time was had by all.
