On Nov. 14, 16, and 18 the SBWGA-18 Holers held their final major tournament of the year: The Cactus Classic. This is a three-day net tournament comprising 18 holes of play on each of the SaddleBrooke One nines. Forty-seven members participated, and with the generous sponsorship of Lexus of Tucson, we were able to award the top three players in each of six flights, plus an overall winner. The 2023 Cactus Classic Champion was Carol Bidwell; Saguaro flight winner: Mary Ribacchi; Cholla flight winner: Margie Buhler; Ocotillo flight winner: Joan Chyall; Hedgehog flight winner: Ann Stonecipher; Prickly Pear flight winner: Ellen Avenoso; Barrel Cactus flight winner: Kay McCollom.
Following the three days of play, we celebrated with a wonderful cocktail party held in the Activity Center. Jennifer Flambard from Lexus of Tucson joined in the fun and helped serve food made by various members. Jane Chanik, our dedicated and ever-present head pro, announced and congratulated all of the winners. Two of the husbands, Bill Huffman and David Fosmire, served as bartenders.
