Savo Fries, a member of the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club, recently received recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow, a group of individuals acknowledged by Rotary International. Fellows have contributed, or have had contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
Ms. Fries is a retired realtor who has contributed to many community activities. She is a past president of the New York Association of Realtors and New York State Affordable Housing Foundation, past Chairman of Hope for the Homeless, member of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and many other organizations.
The SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club currently has fourteen Paul Harris Fellows. Another special designation of contributors is that of the Paul Harris Society as a recognition for sustained giving to the Rotary Foundation. Current President Dick Kroese was recently honored for this recognition. President Kroese has been a Rotarian since 1988.
The Rotary Foundation helps fund projects around the world such as vocational training for teachers establishing an early childhood education center in South Africa; water filters, toilets and hygiene training to prevent fluorosis, diarrhea and other diseases in India; peace-building seminars for 200 teachers and 1,300 students in Uganda and providing treated mosquito nets and medical services that prevent malaria in Mali.
