SASO plays Beethoven – Dvorak von Suppe at SaddleBrooke

On Saturday, February 21 the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert of Romantic Period masterworks. On the podium will be SASO’s resident conductor, Linus Lerner. This concert can be heard at DesertView Performing Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. in SaddleBrooke.

A major work will be Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major. Soloists for the three movement work will be Edwin E. Soo Kim, violin, Zoran Stilin, cello and Melanie Chae, piano. Another large work on the program is Symphony No. 8 in G major, a Slavic Czech jewel, by Antonine Dvorak. Opening the concert will be Franz von Suppe’s Overture Light Cavalry where you can imagine the horses leading the charge.

This concert opens the 2015 portion of the SASO season. Looking ahead, SASO will perform at SaddleBrooke on Saturday, April 11 with works by Martinu, Khachaturian and a premier of Michael Kiefer’s new work, Psalm 22 and on Saturday, May 9 with works by Mussorgsky, Bruch and Elgar
