On Oct. 24 SaddleBrooke Pickleball Association (SPA) honored the late Greg Davis by naming the first aid location at the Ed Robson Pickleball Center the “Greg Davis First Aid Station.” Greg was a longtime, loyal SPA member. He was a medic in Vietnam, and after his service, he became a paramedic in Los Angeles County. When Greg retired, his wife Joyce and he moved to SaddleBrooke and learned to play pickleball. Greg always said that a paramedic never really retires, and he was right. When Greg was playing and anyone fell or was injured on the courts, Greg stepped in. He called 911, if necessary, and provided care for the victim.

Greg was also a student of the game of pickleball. He shared his knowledge by volunteering to teach classes for new SPA members. He was also well known for moderating drop-in play at the courts. He organized the paddles stacked by SPA members waiting for an open court to play, and he called out the number of any court that opened up for play. Greg’s kindness and presence will be greatly missed.
