On Saturday, March 24, 2018, 43 swimmers from the SaddleBrooke Swim Club split into two teams for their annual Intra-Squad Swim Meet, this year organized by team member Steve Roberts. This meet takes place each year around this time and pits wives against husbands and friends against friends. In the end, with the exception of a little ribbing, everyone has a good time and actually become a bit closer through friendly competition. Our team is like one big happy family after all. The competition consisted of 16 events, two of which were mixed relays where two women and two men comprise a team. The other 14 were individual events consisting of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke. This year for the first time the teams were divided into two groups within each team. One over 69 years of age and the other for those below 69. We had 19 racers over the age of 69 and 24 below 69. Each group had a men’s and a women’s race in each discipline. The day was a bit windy but otherwise delightful and drew a good-sized group of spectators to cheer the contestants along. We were pleased and fortunate to have the support of many non-participating Swim Club members to fill the roles of timers and general help, of which there is always a need. A special thanks goes out to Susan and Dave Fuller as well as Coaches Doug Springer and Jay Selnick for handling all of the officiating duties along with some movin’ music thrown in for good measure. The meet started out in the favor of The Magical Mystical Marlins (led by Steve Truesdale) but by the end The Assassins (led by Debi Truesdale) wiped out the advantage and came home victorious for an ever-so-close 240-225 win. Following the extreme workload of the meet you need some nourishment and we were definitely not disappointed! Our snap social committee put together a fantastic spread as Ann Lowry and her gang of social gurus continue to impress. And a big thank you to those that brought extra goodies to share! When all was said and done we had fun, exercise, good food and camaraderie with our fellow team mates.
