SaddleBrooke Health Fair is October 15

The annual SaddleBrooke Health Fair is the largest exhibition of health-related services in our community. It offers residents a venue to meet local medical providers, have an annual flu shot, dispose of expired medications and eyeglasses while learning about medical specialties and senior services. The fair will be held at the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse, Saturday, October 15, 9:00 a.m. to noon. Parking is available at the MountainView Clubhouse with shuttle service running from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Information Please

An Information Desk has been added this year to help navigate the fair. It can be found at the hostess station in front of the Vistas Dining Room. The table to register for flu shots and immunizations will remain in the same location as in the past.

Flu, Pneumonia and Shingles Vaccines

In addition to the traditional flu shot, Walgreens and HealthWaves will offer high dose and quadrivalent flu shots. The high dose provides greater protection for the three basic flu strains while the quadrivalent covers four strains of flu. Pneumonia vaccines will be available as well as the Prevnar 13® pneumonia booster which most physicians now recommend.

Walgreens also offers the shingles vaccine and tetanus/whooping cough (TDAP). Reservations for the shingles shot must be made in advance. Call Walgreens at 520-825-7747 and ask for Stephanie to make arrangements.

Recycle Eyeglasses and Dispose of Medications

Right outside the clubhouse you will find disposal receptacles for eyeglasses and unused medications. Please do not bring containers, liquids or needles.

Diagnostic Lab and Allergy Testing

HealthWaves offers a wide selection of lab tests at a reasonable price without a prescription. You should receive information on these diagnostic and allergy tests by e-mail right before the fair. Complete details are posted at www.sbseniors.org.

Drug Interactions and Side Effects

Oro Valley pharmacists will be on hand to review your medications, their side effects and how they interact. Please bring a complete list of your medications and doses including prescriptions, over-the-counter meds, vitamins and supplements.

Oro Valley Hospital

Oro Valley Hospital will sponsor short seminars on the patio outside the clubhouse.

9:15 a.m.: Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) – Dr. Anthony Galeo (Cardiologist)

9:45 a.m.: Sports Injuries of the Foot and Ankle – Dr. Tim Short and Dr. John Powers, Podiatrists

10:15 a.m.: Orthopedic Medicine Today – Dr. Kimberly Tucker, Orthopedic Surgeon

These doctors will be available after the seminars at the Oro Valley Hospital location.

Tucson Medical Center

Tucson Medical Center will be present to discuss a variety of medical issues including osteoporosis.

Free Screening for Skin Cancer

Sheftel Healthy Skin Dermatology, underwriter of the Health Fair, will do free screenings for skin cancer. They will be located on the lower level of the clubhouse. These screenings frequently reveal issues that require follow-up treatment.

Free Vision Screening

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences will conduct free screenings for glaucoma, cataracts and other eye issues.

Specialists

Meet orthopedic surgeons at the Tucson Orthopedics exhibit; Sonoran Ear Nose and Throat will be on hand for your ENT issues; Fishkind, Bakewell, and Maltzman Eye Care will have information on common vision problems. You can talk with physical therapists, dentists and chiropractors.

Massage, Yoga, CPR and More

Have a mini-massage. Watch a CPR demonstration. Test your balance. Learn about hypnosis or yoga. You will find exhibitors to discuss physical fitness and healthy life styles.

You can meet with Medicare insurance providers or attorneys specializing in estate planning issues. Information on assisted living facilities, hospice care, rehabilitation and a variety of senior services will be at your fingertips. With the new Information Desk, you can locate them all in short order.
