Lorraine Roman
Floral designer extraordinaire! Few words could ever capture the creativity and desire to create beautiful artificial arrangements without knowing the name, Lorraine Roman.
A native of Hartford, Connecticut but raised in the nearby suburb of Manchester, Lorraine has always loved the opportunity to create beautiful floral designs. A graduate of the prestigious Floral Design School in Boston, Massachusetts, Lorraine began her career with several local florists creating floral arrangements for special holidays and events.
Lorraine met her husband at First Hartford Realty Corporation, a development and property management company located in Manchester. Floyd and Lorraine are now celebrating over 42 years of marriage. An accountant by profession, he and Lorraine made the decision to leave the East Coast and move to SaddleBrooke 16 years ago. Why would anyone choose to move to sunny Arizona where the snow measures only three inches (on occasion) and not three feet? I think we know the answer to this question.
It did not take long before Lorraine joined nearby Darlins Flowers, where for six years she specialized in beautiful arrangements for funeral homes and individual customers. She also used her talents to create arrangements for holiday events, weddings and special occasions.
When asked, “Where do you find your ideas and inspiration?” Lorraine easily answered, “Everywhere.” She and Floyd recently returned from visiting several of the national parks and a collection of over 1,500 photographs. It is from many of the images she gleans ideas on how to feature natures’ products from pinecones and berries to seashells. Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are a prime time to feature those special creations for customers.
A prize creation is the skull of paper-maché with attached succulents. She had this idea and looked everywhere and on a whim stopped at a nearby, well-known thrift store and there it was, hanging on the wall. The sales person with a wide smile on his face said, “You must be working on another Roman creation.” Lorraine was smiling on the outside but jumping up and down on the inside. It was the base for her next creation.
For eight years Lorraine has displayed a combination of both large and small arrangements at the SaddleBrooke Arts and Crafts Shows held in the SaddleBrooke Two ballroom. They have been extraordinary!
