The SaddleBrooke Community is cordially invited to a forum on gay and lesbian issues on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the HOA 2 MountainView Ballroom. Please come early at 9:30 a.m. for a coffee social and seating. The forum will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., instead of the usual 10:30 a.m., to provide enough time for the panel discussion and anticipated lively discussion on the state of gay and lesbian issues to include marriage, equality, discrimination, adoption and family values.
Gays, Lesbians, and Allies at SaddleBrooke (GLAAS) will sponsor the panel discussion based on their mission statement: “Using the power of community relationships to celebrate the lives of gay, lesbian, and straight people.” At this writing, panel members will be Paula Aboud, former AZ senator, and Barbara Atwood, former Professor of Law at the University of AZ, and others to be announced.
Spokesperson Jo Ann Ellison stated that the primary purpose of GLAAS is to provide a safe space where allies, i.e. straight people, can reach out to gay and lesbian residents of SaddleBrooke. Gays and lesbians are becoming main stream in our society.
The SaddleBrooke Freethinkers are a group of SaddleBrooke residents who meet on the fourth Sunday of each month, October through April. We listen to speakers on a variety of important and timely issues and engage in open and free spirited discussion. We believe in responsible search for truth in the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and solving human problems. We believe that compassion, equity and civility should characterize interactions among peace loving individuals and organizations.
On February 22, 2015, Dr. John Dossey will discuss the national K-12 Educational Core Curriculum: Misunderstandings and Politicization. We encourage attendees to bring non-perishable food items, canned goods and cash donations to support the Tri-Community Food Bank.
