Sheriff Paul Babeu was the guest speaker for the October meeting. Sheriff Paul was the 2011 America’s Sheriff of the Year and voted one of the Top 10 Toughest Sheriffs in America on Illegal Immigration.

He said that Pinal County has long been one of the main drug and human smuggling corridors in Arizona. He indicated that scouts sit for days and sometimes weeks in the mountains watching for not only illegal movement but also watch for the movement of law enforcement. The scouts then tell any drug or human smugglers where not to appear.

During 2012, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department scored one of the largest drug busts in Arizona history smashing the Sinaloa Cartel’s $2 to $3 billion drug smuggling operation. They arrested 76 cartel members, seizing 108 weapons including scoped rifles, AK-47s and two guns from Operation Fast and Furious.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has earned a national reputation as one of the most disciplined, professional and elective Sheriff’s Offices in America.

Sheriff Paul Babeu announced that he is a candidate for the United States House of Representatives, District One.

The next Board meeting will be held on January 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the home of President Treick.
