Franny Flynn and Shirley Tié
Did you know that 90% of women have at least one risk factor for heart disease? Did you know that one in three women die from heart disease?
In an effort to raise awareness for heart disease and stroke in women, Carol Thompson and Shirley Miller organized this year’s MountainView/Preserve Lady Niners’ charity event on November 11 supporting The American Heart Association. Carol and Shirley, with their committee and guidance from Vice President Joyce Sutay, organized a fun and creative program that included area sponsors, a chance to win a new golf cart with a hole-in-one, plus great raffle prizes of gift cards, several rounds of golf and a silent auction. Thank you to all our hole sponsors: Golf Carts of AZ, Outdoor Creations, Jenny Rink, Aimee Field of Sola Salons, Tom Lois with Long Realty, Hardin Bros Automotive, W & W Physical Therapy, Linda and Dick Rouse, Red Earth Tile & Stone, Bank of the West, Nova Home Loans-Volpe Team, Dr. Patrick Shaffer DDS, Linda Robson of the SaddleBrooke Progress, our past MPLN Presidents, Jim Click Automotive & Sales, DS Builders & Construction, Noble Hops and Vero Amore and Charles Schwab. We appreciate everyone’s contributions to this worthy event.
The Lady Niners were thrilled to welcome 113 ladies who played in the golf event, making it the largest Niner event ever! Each foursome posted its high and low scores for each hole and these scores were totaled. First Place Winners on the Back Nine were Margery Nemura, Marlene Cowan, Susan Averill and Debbie Mielke. Second place went to Jenny Rink, Rosemary Bounds, Charlene Grimm and Pattie Horning. Third were Joyce Sutay, Beth Stanton, Mary Jo Swartzberg and Diane Mazzarella. Closest to the Pin were Louise Bidwell and guest, Linda Dolejs. Straightest drive was Ilene Skinner and for our guests, Dora Bost. On the Front Nine, first place went to Pat Steffens, Pat Mersy, Margo Sanden and Christine Skellington. Second were Kathy Coffman, Pat Avery, Lucy Donohoe and Carol Ann McAfee and third, Kathy Schoenwetter, Susan Elliott, Linda Allison and Nancy Swenson. Closest to the pin on the front nine were Linda Allison and guest, Carol Ann McAfee. Straightest drive was Sandy Barney and Carol McAfee. Sadly, no one scored a hole-in-one to win the new golf cart from Golf Cars of Arizona!
Following a fun morning of golf, a wonderful buffet lunch was served in the MountainView Ballroom. Niner President Louise Bidwell introduced Lindsay Welch, Executive Director of the American Heart Association. Lindsay thanked everyone for their support and tremendous effort and called attention to some often overlooked facts about heart disease. It was a very enjoyable day for all!
