That’s pretty much a wrap for the official 2024-25 social season. Although we say goodbye to the snowbirds, we’re still planning events for those among us who brave the 115-degree summer. Keep watching your emails for information throughout the summer.
For anyone who read last month’s article (I’m sure all of you did!), I was absolutely correct in predicting our Second Night Passover Seder would be wonderful. If anything, I underestimated how lovely it would be. This year’s dinner was an outstanding example of what makes this occasion so special to the Jewish Friendship Group (JFG). The Vermillion Room was filled to capacity as members and their guests came together to share the customs of Passover. Greeted by a yellow ribbon on the front table, everyone was moved by the symbolism to “Bring Our Hostages Home.”
Led by our current and past presidents, with participation of our members, the Seder was a perfect blend of prayer, song, music, and readings. The serious issue of the resurgence of antisemitism throughout the world was not forgotten; however, it didn’t overshadow the tradition, joy, and hope that mark this holiday. As always, the SaddleBrooke One chefs prepared a delicious dinner of all our favorite Passover foods. Really, who doesn’t love a dinner where wine is mandatory?!
Many thanks and appreciation to Sandy Rosen, Marilyn Anthony, Leslie Nagy, Seth Basker, and Art Triester for this evening and for their individual roles in the growth and success of the JFG. Carol Gordon’s musical accompaniment added a special element to the evening.
This extraordinary night would not have been possible without the months-long effort of Sharon Hoff. Coordinating an event with many moving parts, last-minute changes, and unending “suggestions” is not for the faint of heart.
The May 8 Men’s Dinner ended the season with another night of male championship. We hope you join us next season to continue this new tradition. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Steve Rosen at steverosen458458@gmail.com.
The ladies also ended their season of Ladies Coffees. Both the lovely April 30 breakfast hosted by Abby Greene and Fleurette Wallach at Abby’s home and the May 8 event hosted by Carol Gordon showed how committed the women of the JFG are to remaining interested and active in each other’s lives. A delicious bagel, a good cup of coffee, and a piece of cake certainly make the conversations tastier.
Once again, we wish our snowbirds farewell. As we start the official summer vacation season, wishing safe travels and fun times to everyone. As for me, thank you for checking in every month to find out what’s happening within our community. Please keep looking for updates and upcoming events.
