WOOO ladies: Dee Berisha, Brenda McBride, and Edie Crall
Dee Berisha
As with anything and everything, an idea springs from one person. Every one of the wide variety of events and activities found in WOOO (Women On Our Own) began with one person who had an idea. At our small group Meet & Greets where new members are welcomed and given an orientation to WOOO, new members are encouraged to explore the many activities offered. But if they don’t see an interest of theirs in the offerings, just have our Communications officer, Jan Maresca, send it out to the membership. Chances are that of the 150 plus members of WOOO, there will be others who share that curiosity.
It begins with one. Edie Crall, a new member to WOOO had wanted to explore the mysteries of Asian cooking. But after seeking Asian cooking class offerings across the Tucson area and collecting the tools, utensils, and food stuffs needed, she hit a brick wall. So, she turned to WOOO, having remembered that if you don’t see it, create it. A lunch with several WOOO women to discuss the idea yielded a task list for each, and thus, a new activity is being created (hopefully).
So, as we ready our WOOO woks, remember that it really does begin with one, and with that desire, interest and enthusiasm builds. Before you know it, the sizzle of the shrimp in oyster and hoisin sauces with a touch of sesame seed oil will rally the sense of adventure of WOOOers or maybe not. It is up to each of us to find our niche(s) and thrive in the support and friendships found there.
If you are a single woman in Saddlebrooke who is not in a committed relationship and would like to find out more about WOOO or receive a membership form, please contact our president, Debbie Flato at 520– 818-2904 or deblynne50@gmail.com. Our dues are $10 per year.
