The Colorado Trail elevation at Little Molas Lake is 10,900 feet. On Sept. 27, the last day of the club’s Durango trip, five hikers enthusiastically made the 8.5-mile round trip venture to 11,800 feet of elevation on the Colorado Trail.

Hikers, led by veteran hiking guide Elisabeth Wheeler, claimed their reward of spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains and several lakes.

AZ Trail in a Day accomplished

Arizona Trail in a Day is an effort by hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders—all groups that appreciate and help to maintain the 800 plus miles of the Arizona National Scenic Trail—all within 24 hours.

On Oct. 12, 24 SaddleBrooke hikers formed a part of this event on the trail’s section that runs to the American Flag Ranch. Volunteers from the Oracle Historical Society opened the American Flag Ranch house for tours in conjunction with the hike. Volunteer John recited cowboy poetry, and Kevin Armbrust highlighted the history of the territorial post office, which resided in the ranch house from 1880 to 1890. Hikers then explored exhibits inside the ranch house.

Breezes cooled the hikers as they completed their “AZT in Day” hikes. SaddleBrooke Club guides were Roy Carter and Elisabeth Wheeler.
