The 2014 SaddleBrooke Men’s Golf Association Club Championship golf tournament was held on April 2, 5 and 9 on the SaddleBrooke Golf Course. There were 84 club members in the field vying for the title of Club Champion. Of course, only one can be Club Champion.
The field was broken down into six flights with the first flight playing for both gross and net scores. Only the First Flight contestants were eligible to become the Club Champion with the lowest gross total for the three days taking the title.
After the three rounds of competition, the results revealed this year’s champion to be Doug Swartz who has now captured his fifth SMGA Club Championship title in the past seven years! Doug has demonstrated a remarkable level of consistency in his play during his participation in this tournament. Doug completed the three days with a combined gross score of 229 or average rounds of 76.33. Second low gross went to Terry Edwards, Club Champion from 2009, with a combined low gross of 235.
Other flight winners included: First Flight low net winner was JR Salladay with a net 215. Second Flight low net winner tied for Bob Sorens and Dennis McCabe with net scores of 206. Third Flight low net winner was Dick Modos with a net three day total of 207. Fourth Flight was taken by Chris Costello with a net total of 199. Fifth Flight was won with a three way tie at 202 by Dave Bentzel, Don Rouly and Carl Travor. Sixth Flight was also won by tying net scores of 198 by Marc Webb and Jim Deblock.
Congratulations from the SMGA membership to Doug for his fifth Club Championship victory. Next year Doug will have a chance to tie the Club Championship title record held by Ray Lohman who won the Club Championship six times in the consecutive tournaments from 1996 to 2001.
