Dems Talk to Their Neighbors

Karla Trippe

SaddleBrooke Democratic Club (SBDC) Chair Maureen Borland opened the July meeting by discussing Project 2025, also known as the Presidential Transition Project, and how it will reshape the United States federal government. She also pointed out how the programs listed will move down to impact state government.

Borland reemphasized the club’s pivotal role in supporting state candidates representing SaddleBrooke Precincts 8 and 15 and Precinct 92 in Eagle Crest. This underscores the significant influence each member has in shaping Arizona’s future.

The club tried out a new program at the July meeting. Marketing and PR Chair Karla Trippe gave a presentation on speaking tips and led a discussion on the importance of talking to neighbors about critical issues in the 2024 election. Trippe then reminded members of the club’s six key messages selected for this campaign and how to present them to Democrats who may not have voted in the last election and Independents who are critical to choosing candidates for the Arizona House and Senate and the Arizona Corporation Commission. Trippe stressed the importance of members in educating themselves on the issues. The club’s new website includes cited information on reproductive rights, public education, voting rights, climate change, healthcare programs, and the economy, along with information on all the Democratic candidates running in Pinal County, Legislative District 17, and Congressional District 6. Trippe emphasized focusing on facts and keeping emotion out of discussions. Treating all neighbors respectfully, regardless of their views, is paramount.

The next SBDC meeting is Aug. 13 at 3:30 p.m. The club will take members on a tour of the new website and provide an update on all the election-related programs the club is working on and critical dates. Anyone who wants to volunteer to work on programs should send a message to [email protected]. To learn more about SBDC, visit www.saddlebrookedemocrats.org/sbprogress.
