The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament on Jan. 25 in the SaddleBrooke One Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. Thank you, PPB, for sponsoring this tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament was double-elimination. This is the third in a series of five 8-ball tournaments used to qualify for the finals, which will be held in April, of the PPB’s first annual 8-Ball Club Champion Pool Player of the Year award.

The tournament director was Phelps L’Hommedieu. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-ball singles: Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Randy “Nice Try” Smith, Dick “Pocket Blocker” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Bill Webster, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dan “Rambo” Sollin, Steve Wiley, Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu, Dave Parker, Dick “The Visor” Titus, Jim Samlaska, Bob “O” Ogle, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Les Goins, and Roger “Rack ‘em” Rock.

Results:

1st: Dave Parker, best 8-baller today! 8 wins, 1 loss

2nd: Bill Webster, showed he can play! 4 wins, 2 losses

3rd: Jack Hoverter, cannot go home, 3 wins, 2 losses

4th: Phelps L’Hommedieu, broke even with double duty, 4 wins, 2 losses

Recap: Dave Parker’s day started out with a hard-fought win over Tony Cardillo. Dave then lost to Bill Webster. Dave went into the loser’s bracket and got into stroke as he defeated, in order, Joe Vidmar, Bob Ogle, Lowell Hegg, Phelps L’Hommedieu, and Jack Hoverter to get another chance at Bill Webster who sent Dave to the loser’s bracket and was waiting on the hill for someone to emerge from the loser’s bracket. Dave would have to beat Bill twice to wrestle the title away from Bill. Dave was not to be denied, as he quickly beat Bill twice to take the title. Congrats, Dave Parker, winner of the third 8-Ball Club Championship qualifier.
