Sunday, December 6 was the sixteenth year the CycleMasters have supported the Tucson Marathon by providing water and aid as needed. We are among the longest continuous support organizations that help out this increasingly popular race. Most members working the water table are long-term event volunteers, some more than 10 years. Imagine arriving in the chilly dark at 6:00 a.m. in 32 degree temperatures to fill over 1000 cups of water and Gatorade. Helping to keep the runners hydrated is a very important task, as most runners requiring aid later in the race are directly related to lack of liquids.
The CycleMasters also provide roving assistance via the bicycle patrol for both the half and the full marathon runners. From the first runner to the last walker, the bicycle patrol is there to assist. The eight hour time frame is divided into sections and time periods to assure full coverage of the route.
A special thank you to our coordinators Ken Siarkiewicz and Brad Volz and all the CycleMasters members who continue to give back to the community. As our motto says, “We cycle for fun, fitness and community service.”
