Arizona Pathfinders, a nonprofit volunteer group of the Arizona Historical Society, is conducting a one day tour on March 3, 2016, to the Apache Junction – Canyon Lake, Arizona area. Join us for this adventure tour around the west side of the fabled Superstition Mountains. Highlights will be a visit to the Goldfield Ghost Town, filled with authentic looking buildings, includes underground mine tours and an operating narrow gauge railroad. Numerous shops and buildings include a brothel, bakery, leather works, a jail, livery, cafes, gold panning and more. The authentic looking street is filled with people in period costume, horses and wagons and sometimes authentic gunfighter presentations. We will then have a family style lunch at the world famous Historic Mining Camp Restaurant and Trading Post at the base of the beautiful Superstition Mountains. The restaurant has the look of an early mining camp cook shanty with amazing authenticity and good food. After lunch we will proceed to Canyon Lake, formed by the damming of the Salt River. There we will board the Dolly Steamboat for a ninety minute cruise and listen to the captain as he recounts legends and lore of the mysterious Superstition Mountains. We may view the majestic big horn sheep, bald eagles and a host of other wildlife, water fowl and birds.
Cost is $165 per person. Full cancellations accepted until February 11, 2016; thereafter, only if we fill your seat. Please contact Bob Stuart at 520-825-4239 or Mary Flynn at 520-579-7508. We plan to leave the Arizona Historical Museum at 7:30 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m.
