A look back at SaddleBrooke 65 Pima County Champions

Brad Adair

Prior to having our own field in 2005, numerous SaddleBrooke teams played in the downtown Tucson league. One of the best back then was the 2003-2004 team led by current resident and player Brad Adair.

Brad is a “young” 80-year-old still very active here in SaddleBrooke. When not playing golf at SaddleBrooke One courses, Brad still umpires and plays two days a week in our Community League. As past President and Board member Brad was among the many volunteers who helped convince Ed Robson that SaddleBrooke had enough residents to form our own league(s) and build the current softball facility.

This 2003 team won the Pima County League championship with a 17-3 won/loss record. John Vosper was the manager which had 18 players. Brad was the top hitter, batting .756 with a 1.311 slugging percentage for the season. Brad is the only player on this team still actively playing in SSSA, the rest of the roster has retired but are not forgotten.

We have numerous individuals who also have played outside of SaddleBrooke over the years, many on World Champion Senior Softball teams. My goal is to highlight a number of them in future articles who are still residents and playing here. Our leagues play Monday through Friday at the facility on Oakwood Drive. If interested in playing contact [email protected]. We have practice sessions on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
