Many of us have fond and vivid memories of traveling Route 66, the Main Street of America. I do. My family drove Route 66 from Oklahoma to Los Angeles when I was a teen and that wonderful, interesting, boring, long, hot, cool trip with my family in our ’63 Cadillac, sans seatbelts, was my introduction to the incredible West. I didn’t come again until we moved to SaddleBrooke in 2011. By then, sadly, Route 66 had fallen into disrepair and was replaced by I-40. It was decommissioned in 1985.
However, there is an original Route 66, the 66 books of the Bible, that will never, ever be replaced or decommissioned, and which is as wonderful, exciting and relevant to us today as when it was written. That’s why the CCSB Women’s Bible Study will be taking a journey through this amazing Route 66 fix. Many of us know events in the Bible, but we don’t know how they fit into the whole. We’ll take a quick trip, a survey, through the 66 books to understand the unified story line and see the big picture of scripture.
As we do, God’s incredible, love-fueled fix for humanity will be crystal clear, the redemption of mankind, the one fix by which we can all experience forgiveness and heaven. We’ll notice themes that run throughout the route like the battle between good and evil and the covenants or eternal promises God made with His people. We’ll see how the Old Testament is the background and foundation for the New and how the two fit seamlessly together. We’ll also discover what the Bible says about God’s final fix for our world and mankind.
We’ll ask the question, “OK, so what? How does this fix help me?” As we discover truth, we’ll discover divine fixes for the issues of our lives today. It’s all part of our journey through The Route 66 Fix.
