SaddleBrooke Squares Dance Across the Deep Blue Sea

Mary Klootwyk

Imagine combining the thrill of traveling to sun-soaked Caribbean ports with the joy and high energy of square dancing. That is the essence of a square dancing cruise. Square dancing on a cruise ship is not just a vacation; it is an organized, community-in-motion” experience that brings together dancers, world-class callers, and enthusiasts for a week of dancing, dining, and exploring.

Members from the SaddleBrooke Squares Dance Club, along with over 690 other dancers, sailed the warm Caribbean waters on the Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas from February 8 to 15. Dancers enjoyed the privilege of dancing to 19 of the world’s “Top of the Line” square dance callers from 14 different states and two from Europe. The event featured elite,

high-caliber calling that brought the dance floor to life. The special highlight was the flash mob square dance on the promenade deck creating a unique spectator experience. Square dance cruising provides a perfect blend of high-seas adventure and the joy of dancing. But the best part of a square dancing cruise is the community. Because the group is exclusive, it is incredibly easy to make new friends, with many participants coming from across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Whether you are an experienced dancer or looking to improve your square dancing skills, a dance cruise offers a supportive, fun-filled atmosphere that makes every “Allemande Left” memorable. Pack your dancing shoes and get ready for an unforgettable adventure where the floor moves beneath you, but the friendship stays firm!
