Senior Softball Action

Frederick King Mitchell, Jr.

Well, SaddleBrooke and Ranch Senior Softball fans, here it is June 12 and Saddlebag Notes deadline time. Here’s the past and future in the action-packed world of SB softball.

Tournament Action—May 26 (Memorial Day)

Yep, softball aficionados, the SSSA Memorial Day Tournament is in the books. The tournament was appreciatively sponsored by Ambient Air Heating & Cooling (sponsors since 2006!) and Debra Miller-State Farm. Next up? The Labor Day Tournament the first week of September. I’m told by the SSSA “sponsor guru” that Stretch Zone of Tucson has signed up as one of the sponsors. Good on ya!

Spring League Action

Well, Spring League is six weeks in, and the bats are a rockin’.

On Mondays in Recreational, Truly Nolen and Tucson Golf Cars are locked in a 2-2 (each) battle. Then it’s over to Community where Ridgeview Physical Therapy is also out to a 3-2 start with Splendido (Life Plan Community) at 2-3. On Tuesdays, it’s just the Competitive boys and girls, with Twin Lakes Air jumping out to a 4-1 lead over Tucson Orthopaedic’s 1-4. With just two games to go, I’m going to go out on a limb and say, “It ain’t lookin’ good” for the bone Docs.

On Wednesdays in Community, Tom Ottaway-State Farm is off to a 4-2 start, with The Moore Advantage, Long Real Estate, trailing at 2-4. There’s still time, though. Then in Sidewinders, Waste Management is also 4-2, with Wildfire Wings at 2-4. Wildfire better get those chicken wings a-flappin’.

Thursday is Coyote league, and the 65-plussers have The Charles Company out to a 3-2 league lead, with SaddleBrooke Remodeling at 2-3.

Finally, on Fridays in Competitive, X-Pert Automotive is at 3-2, with Your CBD Store at 2-3. And in Community, Stone Canyon Painting has stormed out to a 5-0 start, and with just three games left, Robson Communities at 0-5 is headed for “cellarville,” no matter what happens the rest of the season.

The spring season wrapped up June 27, and the softballers will take a two-week break before starting up the summer circuit in July. Summer ball will continue until mid-September. The action should be hot! And I mean hot!

If you want to check out the action, games begin at 8 a.m. (for now), Monday through Friday. The softball junkies will be down at the field every weekday slapping the softball around. Ditto Saturday mornings, when the softballers tune the gloves and bats with some batting and fielding practice. Or you can surf the SSSA at saddlebrookesoftball.com. The action is sure to be hot and heavy, and we know the weather will be, so turn up the A/C! Remember! The Labor Day Tournament is the first week of September! What else you got going? I know, I know … the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup will be going on in September, as well as the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Rugby, okay, but cricket? They only play four innings, score “overs” instead of runs, and matches can last four or five days! Whatup with that?
