Would you like to engage in a fun activity that will help you make new friends, increase your number of steps per day, and is the number-one activity to reduce dementia risk?
Good news! We can help! Partner dancing is a wonderful way to accomplish those three things. If you tap your foot to music or bob your head, you do have rhythm and can dance. The SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club (SBDC) is truly fortunate to have two professional dance instructors on its board as the directors of dance instruction. Dale and Ann Pizzitola sold their dance studio in Wisconsin and, luckily for us, have retired to SaddleBrooke. Their classes are structured for you to be successful in getting you up to the dance floor, and they are free to SBDC members.
The June classes will be taught by the Pizzitolas. Tango is the lesson of the month. Think Arnold and Jamie Lee in True Lies, without the rose or quite the drama. Tango is a fun, entertaining dance. The tango is known for its passionate, dramatic character, featuring staccato movement and a close connection between partners. Tango music is rhythmic and emotive, driving the dance’s expressive nature. The Pizzitolas take it slow and teach you step-by-step to be able to get on the dance floor to enjoy your partner and dance. Classes meet on Sundays and Tuesdays in the MountainView ballroom, and practice sessions are also available each week. Please refer to the website at www.sbballroomdance.com for the latest information on dates, times, and locations. As a non-member, you may also attend one class before joining to be sure it is an enjoyable experience for you.
Not quite ready for a Tango class? Then check out the SBDC Novice Program. This program is also taught by the Pizzitolas. In these classes you learn the basic steps of several partner dances. It will be just enough to get you moving! These classes have had over 100 participants and are an enormous success in getting SaddleBrooke residents up on the dance floor. The program is free, and no membership is required. Currently, classes are scheduled for June 3 and June 17, with a practice party on June 21. Sometimes dates change, so please check the website at www.sbballroomdance.com for updates.
We know that dancing is a terrific way to keep our brains healthy, bodies active, social connections close, and to just have fun! We would be honored to have you join us.
