Decked out in spangled SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club tees, boots, and cowgirl hats, more than 60 dancers gathered at the popular Western restaurant and dance hall Whiskey Roads on Feb. 28 for food, friendship, drink, and dancing. Making an impressive showing were dancers from the Novice and Novice+ classes who made up half of the crowd!
Kicking things off, seasoned Level 3 dancers slid onto the gleaming wooden floor to the opening bars of “Drunk” where they expertly performed the aptly titled dance, Shot of Tequila. Next, all dancers were welcomed, and even coaxed, to join in the Novice Level dance, Lucky Lips, performed to the popular tune “Made You Look.” Now that the dancers were warmed up, the dance leaders guided us through a one-wall walk-through of each dance so that we could all succeed in doing it with style to Gloria Gaynor’s anthem “I Will Survive.”
Survive we did, high-stepping, shimmying, swaying, and chasseing to the beat until it was time to take a break and invite significant others to join in for couples’ dances. Practiced partners scooted across the floor, two-stepping, waltzing, and cha cha-ing to country favorites such as “Neon Moon,” “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” and “Two Piña Coladas.” Watching the graceful couples dance, the rest of us took a needed break, savoring whiskey burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, chicken Caesar salads, and one another’s company.
Many thanks to our Social and Music Committees for the effort, talent, and creativity required to pull off this fabulous dance party and countless other celebratory events enjoyed by SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club.
