Root, root, root for the home team! Your two March choices are as follows:
1. Drive to Phoenix. Pay $5 to $10 to park. Pay about $25 each for tickets. Pay lots more $$$ for some just OK stadium grub. And then watch some players that you don’t know play for a team representing some place you used to call home in one baseball game that doesn’t count because “it’s only Spring Training.”

2. Slide over to SaddleBrooke Softball Stadium near DesertView. Park free. Sit in great new up close MLB stadium seats for free. Eat brats, hot dogs and all the fixings (so good that guilt will compel you to make a donation). And then watch players that you do know, because they are your friends and neighbors, play four exciting softball games. And SaddleBrooke Senior Softball Association (SSSA) games always count!
So now that you have made the right choice here are the particulars. It’s SSSA’s St. Patrick’s Tournament Saturday, March 14 sponsored by Patrick Shaffer Dentistry. Games are at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., so there will be action all morning and early afternoon. See players from the Coyote, Recreation, Competitive and Community Leagues having fun. Follow the action on SSSA’s big electric outfield scoreboard with live play-by-play announcers and a DJ playing tunes between innings.
Doug Wagers of Window Wizard brings his famous Louisiana Cooker to the tourney and the brats and dogs will be served by our good looking volunteers at about 11:00 a.m. Dozens of volunteers work SSSA’s four annual tourneys because it’s fun and we love putting on a great show for our SaddleBrooke neighbors. Even the parking lot attendants are smiling (unlike the ones at choice number one above—if you know what I mean).
SSSA’s other annual tournaments are played around Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. You are always encouraged to come out and enjoy. You can always watch our regular season games too, played weekday mornings into early afternoon, except on Wednesdays, almost every week of the year.
