December 8, 2014, the MountainView Lady Putters held their annual holiday luncheon. The popularity of this event was evident by the large turnout of members filling The Vistas Dining Room. Festive holiday decorations and gift bags galore greeted the attendees as they socialized and were seated. President Maude Ruffin greeted everyone to the luncheon and made a few announcements followed by a wonderful lunch. During and after the meal, drawings were held for the many gift bags. The lucky winners received a variety of gifts from golf hats and golf gear to gift cards.
The luncheon was also the perfect opportunity to honor Emily Anderson who is retiring from the club Board of Directors. Emily is one of MVLP’s oldest members who has contributed many, many hours to the organization over the past 16 years. Emily has served faithfully as the photographer for MVLP events and was instrumental in getting the MVLP website developed and running, as well as continuing on as the Webmaster. She served for many years as our statistician and worked tirelessly making posters and banners for our events. Her dedication earned her a standing ovation from the members at the holiday lunch and in appreciation she was presented with a custom silver angel ornament along with gift certificates to some of her favorite eating establishments.
During the luncheon, presentations were also made for monthly putting awards. The following putters received trophies for their outstanding play during November:
Roadrunner Award (low gross score): Ellen Victor; Lou Ann Garvin Tiger Award (low net score): Carol Ratzla; Hole in Wonder: Sandy Strack
Looking ahead to 2015, mark your calendars for the MVLP annual registration meeting being held at 9:00 a.m. on January 15 with an orientation meeting for prospective and new members at 8:30 a.m. This is the time when we welcome new and returning members and sign up for committees; all members are encouraged to attend. New putter shirts will be available at the January registration meeting.
The membership took an important vote recently regarding play during May through October 2015 while Robson renovates the entire MountainView Golf Course. Several options were considered and a final vote was taken at the December luncheon. The membership voted to cancel weekly putting during the closure period. This is a unique one-time event and necessitates a recalculation of the membership fee for 2015. Members will be notified of the new amount in time for the annual registration meeting on January 15.
